Festival Musica Strasbourg Unveils 2022 Season

The Festival Musica Strasbourg has unveiled its 2022 season, which opens on Sept. 15 and runs through Oct. 2.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be solely on vocal performances.

Emilio Pomárico will conduct the Ensemble Resonanz in Georges Aperghis’ “Migrants.” The work will be headlined by mezzo-soprano Christina Daletska, soprano Agata Zubel, and alto Geneviève Strosser.

Performance Date: Sept. 15, 2022 

Aleksi Barrière will stage Saariaho’s “Only Sound Remains” with musical direction by Ernest Martínez-Izquierdo. The work will star Michal Slawecki, Bryan Murray, MIreia Tarragó, Mariona Llobera, Matthew Thomson, and Joan Miquel Muñoz.

Performance Date: Sept. 16 & 18, 2022 

“À mi-mots” will feature music for voice and clarinette by Zad Moultaka, Daphné Hejebri, Georges Aperghis, and Zeynep Gedizlioglu. Françoise Kubler and clarinettist Armand Angster will be the main soloists, performing alongside the Quatuor Adastra.

There will be a screening of Saariaho’s “Innocence” from the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2021.

Soprano Faustine de Monès, Mireia Tarragó, Mariona Llobera, Matthew Thomson, and Joan Miquel Muñoz will headline “Kaija dans le miroir,” a program featuring music by Kaija Saariaho including “Changing Light,” “Die Aussicht,” “NoaNoa,” “Light still and moving,” “Sept papillons,” and “Nuits, adieux.”

Performance Date: Sept. 17, 2022 

Soprano Mathilde Barthélémy will appear alongside Ensemble Atmusica for music by Beat Furrer, Jacob Druckman, Georges Asperghis, Silvia Borzelli, Francesco Filidei, and Jessie Marino.
