Festival Internacional de Santander to Go on As Planned

By Francisco Salazar

The Festival Internacional de Santander in Spain has announced it plans to go on with its 2020 showcase celebrating the 69 edition.

The festival said in a statement that director Valentina Granados and artistic director Jaime Martín are working on a plan to create a safe environment in order to maintain the dates of its planned festival.

The Festival, which is slated to begin in August, also announced that it will modify its programming due to the budget cuts. The festival originally had a budget of 2,230,000 euros and now only counts with 600,000 euros.

The festival is the first in Spain to address the summer season. Festivals in Granada and Peralada have not released statements on whether or not they would continue the summer festival season.

Across Europe, high profile festivals like Bayreuth, Edinburgh, and Garsington have canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
