Festival della Valle d’Itria Announces Program Change

The Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, Italy has announced a program change.

The festival noted that “Delitto e castigo” by Arrigo Pedrollo, which was announced in December will be replaced by “Le joueur” by Prokofiev.

The work will inaugurate the festival on July 19 and will also be subsequently performed on July 24, 30, and August 6. The opera is based on a romance by Fëdor Dostoevsky and will be performed in its rare French version prepared by Paul Spaak.

As originally announced the other works for the festival will be Bellini’s “Beatrice di Tenda” at the Palazzo Ducale in concert form under the Music Director Fabio Luisi and Cavalli’s “Il Xerse” in a new critical edition by Sara Elisa Stangalino and Hendrik Schulze.

Audiences will also hear the world premiere of “Opera Italiana” by Nicola Campogrande, which was commissioned in 2008.
