Festival Alte Musik Knechtsteden to Showcase ‘Globe Baroque’

The Festival Alte Musik Knechtsteden and the City of Neuss will join forces to present “Globe Baroque” on August 24, 2022.

This new collaboration will kick off with a presentation of Alessandro Scarlatti’s “Il Giardino d’Amore.”

The serenata, which premiered around 1700, is a half-cantata / half-miniature opera that explores a dialogue between Venus and Adonis. Dorothee Oberlinger will conduct the production by Nils Niemann. The cast will star Roberta Mameli as Adonis with countertenor Xavier Sabata as Venus.

Mameli has performed with such companies as Konzerthaus and Theater an der Wien in Wien, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Cité de la Musique in Paris, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Teatro “La Pergola” in Florence, Auditorium of Lyon, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and Teatro Regio in Turin, among others.

Sabata has appeared with such organizations as the Teatro Real Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Theater an der Wien, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
