By David Salazar

Composer/pianist Felix Jarrar will present an abridged concert version of Giacomo Meyerbeer’s “Robert le Diable” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at St. John’s in the Village.

Titled “Speak of the Devil,” the concert presentation showcases highlights from the opera, including the “Evocation Scene,” in a condensed format lasting less than 90 minutes. In the showcase, the roles of Robert and Isabelle will be portrayed by tenor Daniel Kamalic and soprano Caroline Spaeth, respectively. Bass Robert Ellsworth Feng will embody the character of Bertram, soprano Rachel Hanauer will bring Alice to life, and tenor Douglas Sabo will take on the role of Raimbaut.

This is the latest in a series of performances by Jarrar featuring greatest hits of specific operas. He recently showcased “Off With His Head,” spotlighting “Roberto Devereux.”

“Robert le Diable” was first performed in 1831 and launched Meyerbeer to international fame.
