Felix Jarrar to Present Live Concert Reading of ‘La Traviata’

By David Salazar

Conductor / Coach / Pianist Felix Jarrar is set to present a live public concert reading of “La Traviata” on Oct. 20, 2024 at New York City’s “The Church of the Village.

The showcase will feature Michelle Trovato in the role of Violetta. She is joined by Matt Cerillo as Alfredo Germont and Joseph Canuto Leon as Giorgio Germont. Other cast members include Christina Esser, Alonso Jordan Lopez, Victoria Guzman, Ian Cedric Joyal, Chris Lau, Evan Fleming, and Ryan Allais.

“I was inspired to put up this reading because of my love of Verdi’s work,” Jarrar told OperaWire. “I was really inspired to dig into more of his work after serving as pianist/coach and study cover conductor for Opera North’s production of ‘Rigoletto’ this past summer. I was inspired to work on ‘Traviata’ because the music has always touched me and I one day hope to conduct this, ‘Rigoletto,’ and ‘Trovatore’ (his middle period masterpieces). This reading is my gateway towards this goal of mine with my fantastic colleagues.”<

Regarding his audience expectations, Jarrar added, “I hope the audience experiences the whole scope of emotions I feel when I see Violetta – she draws us in from the beginning of Act one, only to break our hearts in Act three. This opera is a tragedy of immense scope and psychological depth with one of Verdi’s most accessible and beautiful scores. Never has dying been so beautifully, so exquisitely, so simply expressed.”
