FEDORA Announces Launch of the Nominee Phase for 2021 Prizes

FEDORA has announced the launch of the nominee phase for its 2021 prizes.

Jury nominees in the opera category belong to Kaija Saariaho and Sofi Oksanen’s “Innocence” in a co-production by Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Dutch National Opera, Finnish National Opera & Ballet, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and San Francisco Opera; Jamie Man and Peter Stamm’s “Zelle, wenn es dunkel wird” from LOD muziektheater, starring soprano Natascha Young and counter-tenor Steve Katona; and Sivan Eldar and Cordelia Lynn’s “Like Flesh” in the production by Opéra de Lille. The audience’s favorite belongs to Michael Gallen, Annemarie Ni Churreain, and Dylan Coburn Gray’s “Elsewhere” from Straymaker.

Digital prize nominees are Finola Merivale’s “Out of the ordinary” from the Irish National Opera; Rafał Zapała and Michał Krawczak’s “Solastalgia” from the Poznań Opera House; and Volker Bertelmann’s “Totality in parts, a reenactment” from the Royal Swedish Opera. The audience’s favorite went to “Opera on brainwaves” from Muzi a Zeny and Jasna Rok Labs starring soprano Elise Caluwaerts.

The privately funded FEDORA Prizes support innovative opera, ballet, education, and digital projects that are still in the making. The Nominees were selected by the FEDORA’s expert juries and by over 25,000 votes during the public voting phase. The winners will be announced during the online Award Night Ceremony on June 17, 2021.
