The Merola Opera Program has added tenor Alek Shrader to its team as the Director of Membership & Engagement.

Shrader, a performer at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Seattle Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and Opera Philadelphia, among others, will lead the organization’s membership program, enhance donor engagement and stewardship, and enhance its visibility through storytelling and alumni activation.

Shrader previously served as Annual Giving Officer with San Francisco Opera.

“Alek embodies the spirit of Merola—he knows firsthand the transformative power of this program,” said Executive Director Sean Waugh per an official press release. “His strategic mindset, creativity, and personal connection to Merola make him an ideal partner as we strengthen our community and advance our vision.”

His addition coincides with the recent appointment of Bella Mello to the position of Director of Operations & Events. She was appointed back in February 2025.
