The Danish National Symphony Orchestra has announced that it will extend the contract of its Chief Conductor Fabio Luisi until 2026.

Luisi will lead the Danish National Symphony Orchestra season’s opener on September 3, 2020 in a concert featuring soprano Elsa Dreisig and mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Kulman in a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2.

“With Fabio Luisi at the helm, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra has experienced an enormous artistic development, and at the same time saw a completely unique collaborative climate that radiates far beyond the stage. It is first and foremost to the great joy for our faithful audience, but at the same time, the collaboration with Fabio Luisi has lifted the Orchestra all the way up in the top international league,” said Kim Bohr, the Chief Executive and Artistic Advisor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, in a statement.

Luisi is the General Music Director of the Opernhaus Zürich and the Music Director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Previously, the Italian maestro held the positions of the Chief Conductor of the Wiener Symphoniker, and Chief Conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden.
