Fabio Armiliato & Hiromi Omura Headline Portland Opera’s 2019-20 Season

Portland Opera has announced its 56th season.

In a press statement, General Director Christopher Mattaliano said, “The 2019/20 season is a celebration of the art of opera. This season gives us the opportunity to explore works spanning four different centuries, from Bajazet, which premiered in 1735, to Three Decembers which premiered in 2008. We cannot wait to bring our audiences on this journey with us.”

Japanese soprano Hiromi Omura makes her U.S. debut in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” with Luis Chapa, Nina Yoshida, and Troy Cook. Conductor George Manahan leads the orchestra in a production by E. Loren Meeker.

Performance Dates: Oct. 25-Nov. 2, 2019

“An American Quartet: Four One-Act Operas” is set to be an intimate evening of four American one-act operas. The operas to be presented will be Menotti’s “The Telephone, “Barber’s “A Hand of Bridge,” Douglas Moore’s “Gallantry,” and Lee Hoiby’s “Bon Appétit!” The evening will see Nicolas Fox conduct and will star  Angela Niederloh, Camille Sherman, Geoffrey Schellenberg, Emilie Faiella, and Ricardo Garcia.

Performance Dates: Feb. 7-15, 2020

Vivaldi’s “Bajazet” is set to star Daniel Mobbs, Camille Sherman, Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, Avery Amereau, John Marzano, and Kathleen Kim. The production by Chas Rader-Shieber will showcase a collaboration with Portland Baroque Orchestra.

The presentation will also be the U.S premiere of Vivaldi’s rarely performed opera. Erin Helyard conducts.

Performance Dates: March 20-28, 2020

The Portland Opera will showcase the “Big Night, A Special Concert” featuring Fabio Armiliato, Daniel Mobbs, and other guests, with Music Director George Manahan conducting and General Director Christopher Mattaliano hosting the evening.

Performance Date: May 9, 2020

Fabio Armiliato headlines Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci” in his company debut with Vanessa Isiguen, Michael Chioldi, and Will Liverman. George Manahan conducts Christopher Mattaliano’s production.

Performance Dates:  June 5-13, 2020

Susannah Mars returns to Portland Opera in this new production directed by Alan Paul of Jake Heggie’s “Three Decembers.” Mars is joined by Caitlin Lynch and Geoffrey Schellenberg. Nicholas Fox conducts.

Performance Dates: July 17-25 2020
