Manfred Honeck is set to lead a unique performance of Mozart’s Requiem with the Pittsburgh Symphony this March.

The showcase, entitled “Requiem: Mozart’s Death in Words and Music,” will take place on March 17-19, 2023. The showcase features Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham, the renowned actor of “The White Lotus” and “Amadeus,” who will serve as narrator for the performance. The soloists include soprano Jeanine De Bique, mezzo-soprano Catriona Morison and bass Tareq Nazmi, all of them in their Pittsburgh debuts. Also performing is the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh.

This version of Mozart’s final masterpiece was conceived in 1990 and has since been performed all over the world including in New York, Salzburg, Tokyo, and Tel Aviv. The version only uses the parts of the requiem found in Mozart’s manuscript together with Süssmayr’s copy and some of Mozart’s other sacred music.

The work will be paired with Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 and the world premiere of “Her tears fell with the dews at even” by Sir James MacMillan.
