Experiments in Opera has announced the first serial podcast opera “Buick City, 1:00 AM.”

The work, by Jason Cady, will launch four episodes with the first coming on Nov. 6, 2018. Episodes two, three, and four are set to launch on Nov. 13, 20, and 27, respectively.

“Buick City, 1 AM” will tell the story of a woman traveling back in time to 1984 to prevent the murder of her father. Each episode will last 25 minutes and will feature spoken dialogue and vocal performances.

Featured artists include soprano Elyse Kakacek, alto Katie Eastburn, baritone Eric McKeever, and actors Annie-Sage Whitehurst, Joshua R. Pyne, Nathaniel Kent, Halley Devestern, Anya Krawcheck, Allen Enlow, and Scott Watson.

“We are excited about taking opera off the stage and directly into your ears! Ever since we launched the Radio Operas project in 2013, we have been exploring the idea that composers can share their music and stories through audio-only operas that create just as broad and detailed a world as any created onstage,” stated the founders of Experiment in Opera in a press release. “‘Buick City, 1:00 AM’ is the next step of this approach and the natural format for our podcast-obsessed world. We are thrilled to be supporting this truly adventurous project that challenges the basic premises of repertory opera and opens the world of opera to listeners of all kind.”
