
‘Everest’ Graphic Novel Opera to Screen at Opera Steamboat
By David SalazarOpera Steamboat will present a screening of “Everest – A Graphic Novel Opera” on Oct. 22, 2024 at the Bud Werner Memorial Library.
The screening will showcase the new film production by Opera Parallèle. The one-act opera by Joby Talbot and Gene Scheer focuses on the 1996 Mount Everest Disaster during which several mountaineers died after a severe storm hit the summit.
Following the film, there will be a panel discussion by Julie Maykowski featuring several local climbers and their Everest stories.
The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. local time and has a duration of two hours.
“Everest” was first announced in 2021 by Opera Parallèle and was conceived by Opera Parallèle’s Creative Director Brian Staufenbiel, in collaboration with illustrator Mark Simmons and cinematographer David Murakami. The work was later announced for thedallasopera.TV, as part of its Originals collection.
