Eva-Maria Westbroek, Evelyn Herlitzius & Pavel Valuzhin Lead Staatsoper Stuttgart 2020-21 season

Staatsoper Stuttgart has announced its 2020-21 season, which is reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is the look.

Mozart and Schikaneder’s famed singspiel “Die Zauberflöte” will open the season. The cast will include David Steffens and Michael Nagl in the role of Sarastro; Mingjie Lei and Kai Kluge in the role of Tamino; Beate Ritter and Yuko Kakuta as Königin der Nacht; Josefin Feiler and Vera-Lotte Böcker as Pamina; and Johannes Kammler and Elliott Carlton Hines in the role of Papageno.

Other cast members include Catriona Smith, Esther Dierkes, Maria Theresa Ullrich, Lindsey Coppens, Stine Marie Fischer, Alexandra Urquiola, Clare Tunney, Heinz Göhrig and Torsten Hofmann.

Hossein Pishkar will conduct the production by Barrie Kosky and Suzanne Andrade.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3, 4 & 28, Nov. 8, 21 & 28, 2020

The double bill of Mascagni, Targioni-Tozzeti and Menasci’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” and Sciarrino’s “Luci mie traditrici” will feature Eva-Maria Westbroek, Arnold Rutkowski, Rosalind Plowright, Dimitris Tiliakos, Ida Ränzlöv, Rachael Wilson, Elmar Gilbertsson and Christian Miedl.

Cornelius Meister will conduct a production by Barbara Frey. Stage design by Martin Zehetgruber.

Performance Dates: Oct. 11, 18, 20 & 24, 2020

Mahler’s famed vocal work “Das Lied von der Erde” will showcase Michael König, Simone Schneider, Evelyn Herlitzius and Martin Gantner. Cornelius Meister will conduct the production by David Hermann.

Performance Dates: Oct. 27 & 29, Nov. 7 & 14, 2020

Concert performance of Mozart and Da Ponte’s “Don Giovanni” will be performed by Björn Bürger, Charles Sy, David Steffens, Michael Nagl, Claudia Muschio and Jasper Leever.

Cornelius Meister will conduct.

Performance Dates: Nov. 1, 2020

Massenet, Blau, Milliet and Hartmann’s opera “Werther” will feature Jarrett Ott, Paweł Konik, Shigeo Ishino, Rachael Wilson and Aoife Gibney.

Marc Piollet will conduct the production by Felix Rothenhäusler.

Performance Dates: Nov. 15, 20, 22 & 29, Dec. 16, 2020

Puccini, Illica, and Giacosa’s opera “Madama Butterfly” will star Elizabeth Caballero, Helene Schneiderman, Pavel Valuzhin, Michael Ebbecke, Torsten Hofmann, David Steffens and Padraic Rowan.

Oksana Lyniv will conduct the production by Monique Wagemakers.

Performance date: Dec. 12, 2020

Ravel’s “Die verzauberte Welt” will be performed by Schorsch Kamerun, Diana Haller, Maria Theresa Ullrich, Carina Schmieger, Claudia Muschio, Lindsey Coppens, Jasper Leever, Jorge Ruvalcaba and Charles Sy.

Dennis Russell Davies will conduct the production by Schorsch Kamerun.

Performance Dates: Dec. 19 & 20, 2020
