Eva-Maria Westbroek, Asmik Grigorian Headline OperaVision’s Russian Program in May

OperaVision has announced that its May streaming slate will be dedicated to Russian opera.

On May 1, the company will stream the Komische Oper Berlin’s production of “Eugene Onegin.” The opera stars Asmik Grigorian, Karolina Gumos, Ales Briscein, and Günter Papendell under the musical direction of Henrik Nánási. The performance will be available for repeat viewings until July 31, 2020.

On May 5, audiences can check out the Moscow State Stanislavsky Music Theatre’s production of “The Queen of Spades.” The production stars Najmiddin Mavlyanov, Elena Guseva, Elena Zaremba, and Evgeny Kachurovsky. Alexander Lazarev conducts. The performance will be available until Nov. 5, 2020.

On May 8, the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen’s “Der Schmied von Gent” will be streamed with a cast that includes Leigh Melrose, Kai Rüüel, Vuvu Mpofu, and Daniel Arnaldos. The stream will be available until Nov. 6, 2020.

On May 12, OperaVision will be begin streaming the Dutch National Opera and Ballet’s production of “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” with Eva-Maria Westbroek, Christopher Ventris, and Ludovit Ludha, among others. Mariss Jansons conducts. The stream will be available until August 12, 2020.

Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh” from the Dutch National Opera and Ballet kicks off on May 15, 2020. Starring Alexey Markov, Svetlana Ignatovich, Vladimir Vaneev, and Maxim Aksenov, the production will be available for repeat viewings through August 14, 2020.

The company will also stream La Monnaie / De Munt’s production of “Tristan und Isolde” starting on May 22, followed by “War and Peace” from the Moscow State Stanislavsky Music Theatre on May 26, and “Boris Godunov” from the Sofia Opera on May 29.

All performances start at 7 p.m. CET.
