Eurasia Festival To present ‘Russian Opera Today: Modern Theaters from St. Petersburg to the Ural Mountains’ in NYC

Noted Russian music critic Vadim Zhuravlev will conduct a seminar / discussion “Russian Opera Today: Modern Theaters from St. Petersburg to the Ural Mountains” as presented by the Eurasia Festival. The event will take place at the National Opera Center in NYC on Oct. 7, 2019.

The event will be moderated by the Festival’s Artistic Director Aza Sydykov and will center on a discussion of musical theater in the post-Soviet Russia. Audiences will learn about who controls the fate of opera houses in Russia today as well as who the major leaders of the opera world in Russia are.

Zhuravlev has written for many of the essential Russian newspapers and magazines including Izvestia, Nezavisimaya Gazeta, and Vedomosti.

He also served as the Bolshoi Theatre’s Director of Artistic Programming and has been a judge on numerous singing competitions, including the International Opera Competition in Marseille; the Ottavio Ziino Opera Competition in Rome; the Concours International de Chant in Marmande, France; and the International “Voci Verdiane” Opera Competition in Busseto, Italy.
