A Far Cry is set to present “México Lindo y Querido” on Nov. 18, 2022 at the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall.

The showcase will be headlined by soprano Estelí Gomez in a program featuring Julián Carrillo’s “En Secreto,” Silvestre Revueltas’ “Cuauhnáhuac,” and Gabriela Ortiz’s “La Calaca.”There will also be a suite of popular Mexican music arranged by Alex Fortes.

Audiences will be able to watch the event live or digitally.

“Mexico recognizes almost 70 national languages, was colonized by three European powers, lost half of its territory around 1850 to the US, and thrived as an international center of modernism. The musical culture that blossomed around this history is incredibly rich, and this program only begins to scratch the surface,” Fortes said via A Far Cry’s official website.

Gomez is a founding member of Roomful of Teeth, an organization with numerous Grammy nominations. She is also nominated for a Grammy for her collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. She has also appeared alongside such organizations as the Seattle Symphony and performed songs by Philip Glass at Carnegie Hall in 2018.
