Erwin Schrott, Bryn Terfel & Nino Machaidze Highlight Hungarian State Opera’s 2019-20 Season

The Hungarian State Opera has announced its 2019-20 season featuring a number of new productions and world premieres.

Premieres 

Levente Gyöngyösi’s “The Master and Margarita” makes its world premiere in a new production by Szente Vajk.

Performance Dates: Nov. 15, 2019 – May 28, 2020

Dóra Barta directs a new production of Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazione di Poppea.”

Performance Dates: Dec. 6-29, 2019

Giampaolo Testoni’s “Fantasio / Fortunio” makes its Hungarian premiere in a new production by András Almási-Tóth.  Balázs Kocsár conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 20-28, 2019

Ferenc Anger is set to direct a production of Handel’s “Messiah.” The production will showcase Mozart’s arrangement of the piece in a new Hungarian translation by Ádám Nádasdy.

Paul Hindemith’s “Mathis, der Maler” will be performed in a new production by Máté Szabó.

Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally’s “Dead Man Walking” makes its Hungarian debut in a production by András Almási-Tóth.

Ernő Dohnányi’s “Tante Simona” Jenő Hubay’s “Le luthier de Crémone” will get a new production by Bence Varga.

Karol Józef Wojtyła’s “Przed sklepem jubilera” gets a new production with  János Szikora directing.

András Almási-Tóth directs a new production of Wagner’s “Parsifal” with Balázs Kocsár conducting.

Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” will be directed by  Miklós H. Vecsei.

Frank Hilbrich will direct a new production of Verdi’s “Don Carlo” in its five-act version.
