Vashon Opera is set to present Verdi’s “Otello” on Sept. 20 and 22, 2024.
The production, which will take place at the Vashon Center for the Arts, will star Errin Brooks in the title role alongside Jennifer Krikawa as Desdemona and Chad Armstrong as Iago. Other cast members include Brendan Tuohy, Soon Cho, Zachary Lenox, Nick Stevens, and Dan Gibbs.
Jim Brown directs and conducts the production of the Verdi classic.
“The role of Otello is vocally and physically demanding, and Verdi’s clear-cut score markings made learning this role challenging yet fun and I believe the audience will grasp and appreciate all of the work we as artists put into the detail and delivery of our performances,” said Errin Brooks who will interpret the title role.
“Desdemona has been a dream role for me for a long time,” added Krikawa. “When I was in graduate school at The New England Conservatory of Music, I wrote a paper on the music of Otello and listened to it over and over again, enraptured by its beauty and how Verdi uses chromatics to elevate emotion. The famous Willow Song is meaningful to Desdemona because it soothes her but also she is realizing her fate. “
