The Ópera de Oviedo has announced a cast change for its final performance of “Madama Butterfly” on Dec. 21.

The Spanish company revealed that Ermonela Jaho will sing her acclaimed interpretation, replacing Ainhoa Arteta, who is beginning rehearsals for “Falstaff” at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia.

Jaho is one of the world’s leading Butterflies having performed the role at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Washington National Opera, Greek National Opera, and Staatstheater Wiesbaden, among others. This season the soprano is set to perform at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in “La Traviata” and “Le Contes d’Hoffmann” and Bayerische Staatsoper in “Suor Angelica.”

The soprano joins a cast that includes Jorge de Leon, Nozomi Kato, and Damián del Castillo.
