Ensemble for These Times Announces 2023-24 Season

San Francisco-based Ensemble for These Times, comprised of soprano Nanette McGuinness, cellist Abigail Monroe, pianist Margaret Halbig, and composer David Garner, has unveiled its 2023-24 season.

Kicking off the season is “Transformations.” The showcase features works by Schoenberg, Lisa Bielawa, inti figgis-vizueta, ad Franz Schreker.

Performance Date: Sept. 22, 2023

“Quiet: Music by Women and Non-binary Composers” will feature works by Tamara McLeod, Jennifer Higdon, Tania Leon, Claudia Montero, Jessica Mao, Niloufar Nourbakhsh, Gabriella Smith, Florence Price, and Alex Temple.

Performance Date: Jan. 20, 2024

“Expression: Ism” will be a multimedia dialogue between music by Berg and Webern as well as three new works inspired by the two composers. Soprano Nanette McGuinness is joined by instrumentalists Adrienne Anaya, Taylor Chan, Meg Chartier, Jennifer Redondas, Laura Reynolds, and Dale Tsang.

Performance Date: April 5, 2024

Closing out the season is “Emigres & Exiles in Hollywood: The Album.” The showcase will include works by such composers as Korngold, Rozsa, Tansman, and Schoenberg. Soprano Chelsea Hollow will be a guest soloist at the concert.
