English National Opera Wins South Bank Sky Awards
By Francisco SalazarThe English National Opera has won the South Bank Sky Arts Awards in the opera category.
The company took home the prestigious award for its production of “The Rhinegold” which was directed by Richard Jones.
The ENO won over productions of “Violet” at the Britten Pears Arts and Music Theatre Wales for the Aldeburgh Festival and “The Makropulos Affair” at the Welsh National Opera.
When the production opened back in March, OperaWire wrote, “Richard Jones’ barnstorming new production of the first part of the tetralogy ‘The Rhinegold,’ has shown the company to be in rude artistic health.”
The company has pulled its plans to continues its cycle with “Siegfried” and “Götterdämmerung” left in limbo.
