The English National Opera has announced that it will present the UK premiere of “7 Deaths of Maria Callas.”

The work, which was conceived by Marina Abramović, showcases Willem Dafoe alongside Abramović in seven films, while seven sopranos perform opera classics from Bellini and Bizet to Puccini and Verdi. For the ENO production, Sarah Tynan, Nadine Benjamin, and Eri Nakamura will perform three of the famed arias.

Israeli-American conductor, Yoel Gamzou will make his ENO debut conducting the opera which also features new music arranged by Serbian composer Marko Nikodijević. The work will be presented between Nov. 3 and 11, 2023.

“7 Deaths of Maria Callas” made its world premiere at the Bayerische Staatsoper and is a co-production with the Greek National Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Opéra national de Paris, and the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.
