English National Opera Names New Artistic Director

The English National Opera has announced the appointment of Annilese Miskimmon as its new artistic director.

Currently director of Opera at Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, Miskimmon will begin her position at the ENO on Sept. 1,  2020 and will remain in Oslo until the end of the 2019-20 season.

In a statement, Miskimmon noted, “I am honored and delighted to be joining ENO, a company whose consistently ambitious and thrilling work I have loved for all my opera-going life. I can’t wait to join the world-class artistic, music and technical teams at ENO. It has been a great privilege and pleasure to lead Norway’s national opera company over these past three years and an equal joy to now join ENO.’

Stuart Murphy, the ENO’s CEO also added, “Annilese understands ENO’s significance as the artistically adventurous, creatively daring national opera house for everyone. Her values of excellence, kindness and impact chime absolutely with ours and she is as committed to broadening out opera as we all are.”

In addition to her work in Oslo, Miskimmon has also served as general manager and artistic director at the Danish National Opera from 2012 to 2017 and as Artistic Director at the Opera Theatre Company Ireland from 2004 to 2012.
