Emma Dante, Jonas Kaufmann, Erwin Schrott, Anita Rachvelishvili & Serena Malfi Headline Rai5 Broadcasts for Next Week

Italian television channel Rai5 has announced broadcasts for the week of Jan. 18 – Jan. 22, 2021. The broadcasts will be dedicated to the director Emma Dante’s opera stagings.

The only opera in the slate that was not directed by Dante was the production of Puccini’s “La bohème” set for Jan. 19, 2021.

First up will be a production of Bizet’s “Carmen” with Jonas Kaufmann, Erwin Schrott, and Anita Rachvelishvili in the title role. Daniel Barenboim conducts. The opera was filmed at the Teatro alla Scala in December 2009.

Streaming date: Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. CET

A production of Puccini’s “La bohème” will follow. The famed Puccini’s opera stars Daniela Dessì and Fabio Armiliato. Valerio Galli conducts the production by Ettore Scola. The opera was filmed at the Festival di Torre del Lago.

Streaming date: Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. CET

Next in the line is a production of Prokofiev’s “L’angelo di fuoco” with Ewa Vesin, Leigh Melrose, Anna Victorova and Mairam Sokolova. Alejo Pérez conducts. The opera was filmed at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in 2019.

Streaming date: Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. CET

The double bill of Poulenc’s “La voix humaine” with Anna Caterina Antonacci, and Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” with Marco Berti, Carmen Topciu, and Gezim Myshketa follows. Michele Mariotti conducts. Operas were filmed at Teatro Comunale di Bologna in 2017.

Streaming date: Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. CET

Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” will end the weekly slate. The opera features Serena Malfi, Juan Francisco Gatell, Vito Priante, Alessandro Corbelli, Damiana Mizzi, Annunziata Vestri, and Ugo Guagliardo. Alejo Pérez conducts. The opera was filmed at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in 2016.
