VOPERA: The Virtual Opera has announced that it will present Maurice Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges” on Nov. 16, 2020.

The performance will feature the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Lee Renolds.

The opera will star Emily Edmonds in the title role alongside Karen Cargill as Maman and Michael Sumuel as Un Arbre. Other cast members include Marcus Farnsworth, Alison Rose, Kieran Rayner, Thomas Atkins, Jane Monari, Sarah Hayashi, Chloe Morgan, Elizabeth Lynch Claire Lees, Paul Hopwood, Shuna Scott Sendall, Jerome Knox, Idunnu Münch, Eleanor Penfold, Elizabeth Karani, Gavan Ring, Marta Fontanais-Simmons, and Philippa Boyce.

The production will feature over 135 freelance musicians, artists, creatives, technicians, producers, and administrators.

“I wanted to make something that people can be actively and creatively involved in. We are all worried about the pressures – both health-related and financial – that the pandemic has put us under, but fundamentally the emotional impact of not working and not making music is being underestimated,” said Rachael Hewer, VOPERA’s founder and director. “I can do something about that. This project involves dozens of artists working individually and together. Singers need to sing, players need to play, and I can make that possible.”

Hewer will direct the production.
