Emily Birsan To Lead Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Performance of ‘La Traviata’

Lyric Opera of Chicago has announced that Emily Birsan will step in to replace Albina Shagimuratova in today’s performance of Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The company announced that Shagimuratova is suffering from laryngitis and is therefore unable to perform.

This marks the third performance that Shagimuratova cancels during the run.

Birsan in an alumnus of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center. She recently appeared on the stage of the Lyric Opera as the Italian Singer in “Capriccio” and as Servilia in “La Clemenza Di Tito.” She has previously performed as Violetta with the Indianapolis Opera. Other credits include Juliette in “Roméo et Juliette” at Madison Opera, Susanna in ”Le Nozze di Figaro” at Boston Lyric Opera, and Donna Anna in “Don Giovanni” at Florentine Opera and Welsh National Opera.

Birsan joins a cast that include Giorgio Berrugi and Željko Lučić with Shagimuratova returns for the next performance schedule for March 4.
