Elsa Dreisig & Kate Lindsey Headline New CD/DVD Releases (Week Of 1/20)

By Francisco Salazar

This week will showcase the release of two second albums, a world premiere recording of a rare work, and a series continuation. Here is a look.

Morgen

Elsa Dreisig follows her debut album “Miroir(s)” with a recital of songs in collaboration with pianist Jonathan Ware. Taking its title, “Morgen,” from one of Richard Strauss’s best-loved lieder, it interweaves his music with the composer’s “Four Last Songs” with thematically linked works by Rachmaninov and Duparc.

As Dreisig says, “Morgen is an inner journey through the seasons of the soul.” Erato releases the new album.

Arianna

Kate Lindsey releases her second album with Alpha. The mezzo-soprano explores Arianna, the character on which R. Strauss’ based his opera “Ariadne auf Naxos.” The new album explores the interpretations of Handel, Scarlatti, and Haydn with conductor Jonathan Cohen and Arcangelo.

Zelmira

From Germany’s annual Rossini in Wildbad festival comes the latest installment in the organization and Naxos’s intrepid exploration of the highways and byways of Rossini’s operatic output.

This time audiences will get a chance to experience “Zelmira,” the last of the operas he wrote for Naples. The recording stars  Silvia Dalla Benetta as Zelmira, Mert Süngü and Joshua Stewart.

Veteran Rossinian Gianluigi Gelmetti leads the Górecki Chamber Choir and the Virtuosi Brunensis.

 Agnese

Ferdinando Paer’s “Agnese” gets its world premiere recording on DVD from the Teatro Regio. Leo Muscato directs the production starring María Rey-Joly, Edgardo Rocha, and Markus Werba.

Diego Fasolis conducts a reduced Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino. Dynamic releases the DVD.
