Elsa Dreisig, Anita Rachvelishvili & Corinne Winters Lead Grand Théâtre de Genève’s 2021-22 Season

The Grand Théâtre de Genève has announced its 2021-22 season with a variety of programs including opera, recitals and ballet as well as family events.

For the purposes of this article, we will only focus on the opera and recitals.

Opera

Leonardo Marino and Pablo Jakob’s “Huit Minutes” will make its world premiere in François Renou’s production. The new opera will star Lara Khattabi, Estelle Bridet, Marie Hamard, Anthony Rivera, and Raphaël Hardmeyer.

Performance Dates: Sept. 1-3, 2021

Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea will star Valer Sabadus, Jeanine de Bique, Reginald Mobley, Núria Rial, and Luciana Mancini. Iván Fischer conducts the production by Marco Gandini.

Performance Dates: Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2021

Alejo Pérez conducts Calixto Bieito’s production of Prokofiev’s “War and Peace” with Björn Bürger, Alexey Tikhomirov, Liene Kinca, Eric Halfvarson, Ruzan Mantashyan, Kai Rüütel, Daniel Johansson, Elena Maximova, Natascha Petrinsky, Dmitry Golovnin, Alexey Shishlyaev, Dmitry Ulyanov, Alexey Lavrov, Alexander Roslavets, Alexander Kravets, and Alexei Botnarciuc.

Performance Dates: Oct. 13-24, 2021

Elsa Dreisig sings the title of Donizetti’s Anna Bolena with Alex Esposito, Edgardo Rocha, and Stephanie d’Oustrac. Stefano Montanari conducts the production by Mariame Clément.

Performance Dates: Oct. 22-Nov. 11, 2021

Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de perles will star Kristina Mkhitaryan, Frédéric Antoun, Audun Iversen, and Michael Mofidian. David Reiland conducts Lotte de Beer’s production.

Performance Dates: Dec. 10-26, 2021

Ingela Brimberg, Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, and Sara Jakubiak star in R. Strauss’ Elektra with Michael Laurenz, Karoly Szemeredy, and Michael Mofidian. Jonathan Nott conducts Ulrich Rasche’s production.

Performance Dates: Jan. 25-Feb. 6, 2022

Lully’s “Atys” stars Matthew Newlin, Giuseppina Bridelli, Ana Quintans, Andreas Wolf, Michael Mofidian, Gwendoline Blondeel, Lore Binon, and Samuel Boden. Leonardo García Alarcón conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 27-March 10, 2022

Peter Eötvös and Maxime Pascal conduct Eötvös’s “Sleepless” with a cast that includes Victoria Randem, Linard Vrielink, Katharina Kammerloher, Hanna Schwarz, Sarah Defrise, Jan Martinik, Tómas Tómasson, Roman Trekel, Siyabonga Maqungo, and Arttu Kataja. Kornél Mundruczó directs.

Performance Dates: March 29-April 5, 2022

Corinne Winters takes on the title role in Leoš Janáček’s Jenůfa with Misha Didyk, Ladislav Elgr, and Evelyn Herlitzius. Tomáš Hanus conducts Tatjana Gürbaca’s production.

Performance Dates: May 3-13, 2022

Ingela Brimberg sings the title role of Puccini’s Turandot alongside Liang Li, Teodor Ilincai, and Olga Busuioc. Antonino Fogliani conducts Daniel Kramer’s production.

Ian Bostridge and Saskia Giorgini join forces for an evening of song by Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Benjamin Britten.

Patricia Petibon sings New Year’s Eve alongside the Basel Chamber Orchestra and conductor Riccardo Minasi.

Performance Date: Dec. 31, 2021

Pretty Yende and Michele d’Elia perform in recital.

Performance Date: Feb. 10, 2022

Anita Rachvelishvili performs a recital.

Performance Date: April 10, 2022

Asmik Grigorian gives the final recital of the season.
