Ellen Reid and David Angus to Discuss Ravel’s ‘Daphnis et Chloe’ on BLO’s Latest ‘At Its (s)Core’ Episode

By Logan Martell

The Boston Lyric Opera’s “At Its (s)Core” podcast series will feature company Music Director David Angus in a discussion with 2019 Pulitzer-Prize winning composer Ellen Reid during its next episode.

The episode, which will broadcast July 23, 2020, will be on the topic of Maurice Ravel’s “Daphnis et Chloe.” Angus and Reid will also discuss the impact they feel the work has had on themselves and subsequent composers, the similarities between Ravel’s work and Reid’s “Prism,” and the role of contemporary opera in reaching new audiences.

The Boston Lyric Opera has also commissioned Ellen Reid for an episodic, streaming opera project which is set to be announced later this year.

Reid was recently awarded a grant by OPERA America meant to support gender equality in the arts, with support from the Virginia B Toulmin Foundation.
