Elizabeth Llewellyn, Kate Lidnsey, Michael Spyres, Cecilia Bartoli Among BBC Music Magazine Awards 2022 Nominees

BBC Music Magazine has announced its 2022 award nominees.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on vocal and operatic winners.

In the Choral Award 2022 category, the first nominee is Dunedin Consort’s recording of Bach’s Cantatas, BWV 23, 82 & 106. John Butt conducts the album. Also nominated is the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Kaspars Putnins’ recording of Arvo Pärt and Schnittke’s Choral Works as well as Academy of Ancient Music and Richard Egarr’s performance of JL Dussek’s “Messe Solemnelle.”

In the Opera Award 2022 category, audiences get to choose between Harry Bicket and The English Concert’s recording of Händel’s “Rodelinda” starring Lucy Crowe, Iestyn Davies, Joshua Ellicott, and Jess Dandy, among others; Gianluca Capuano and Les Musiciens du Prince Monaco’s recording of Händel’s “Ariodante” headlined by Cecilia Bartoli; and the Met Opera and Karen Kamensek’s recording of “Akhnaten” starring Anthony Roth Costanzo.

For the Vocal Award 2022, soprano Katerina Kneziková’s recording “Phidlylé“ will compete with Michael Spyres’ “Baritenor” and Kate Lindsey’s “Tiranno.”

In the Premiere Award 2022, soprano Nora Fischer and the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Esa-Pekka Salonen will compete for their “Louis Andriessen” recording. The other nominees are instrumentalists.

And two opera singers comprise the Newcomer Award 2022 including Elizabeth Llewellyn for her “Heart & Hereafter” recording as well as Freddie De Tommaso for his “Passione” album.

Audiences can vote in each category to select the winner.
