Elisabete Matos To Become Artistic Director Of Teatro Sao Carlos

Elisabete Matos is set to become the new artistic director of the Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Portuguese minister of culture announced that Matos will take over the position replacing Patrick Dickie, who resigned from the position.

Matos is a recognized soprano, who was chosen due to her 25 years performing in some of the leading theaters and for her work at the Escuela de Artes Aplicadas; she was also the Artistic Director at the Festival Internacional de Música Religiosa de Guimarães.

Matos was awarded the Order of the Infant Don Henrique, the highest decoration possible as a Portuguese public figure, by the President of the Portuguese Republic and performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Berlin State Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Hamburg State Opera, Teatro Regio di Torno, and LA Opera, among others.

The soprano will assume the position on Oct. 1, 2019.
