By Francisco Salazar

Elīna Garanča will not perform during the 2024-25 season at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Spain.

In a letter obtained by Diario de Sevilla from the mezzo-soprano’s press team, Garanča clarifies that she never signed a contract for the performances of “Carmen” on June 13, 15, and 17, 2025 and that she has dates for another theater during that time. She added that she was sorry to her audience, who makes plans to travel to see her, and said that the announcement of the dates was damaging to her image.

The letter concluded by stating that she loves her audience in Seville and hopes to see them soon.

The Teatro de la Maestranza has already taken Garanča’s name off the website but has not announced a replacement.

Garanča next performs gala concerts in Asia before taking on the role of Amneris in “Aida” at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
