Elīna Garanča Unveils New Album ‘Sol y Vida’

Famed mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča has announced her upcoming album “Sol y Vida,” which will hit stores on May 10, 2019.

The forthcoming Deutsche Grammophon release will  feature a number of popular Spanish songs such as “La Llorona,” “Granada,” “El día que me querias,” and “Gracias a la vida.” She will also interpret a number of Italian works such as “Marechiare,” “Non ti scordar di me,” “Non t’amo più,” “Torna e Surriento,” and “Core ‘ngrato.” The album will also feature the famed romanza “No puede ser” from the zarzuela “La Tabernera del Puerto.”

The Latvian mezzo recorded the album alongside maestro Karel Marek-Chicon and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria. Guitarist José María Gallardo del Rey is also featured on the new CD.

This marks the seventh the mezzo-soprano’s seventh solo album for Deutsche Grammophon and her third conducted by Marek-Chichon.

Garanča is set for performances of Verdi’s Requiem in Baden Baden this April, followed by a series of concerts with the NDR Radio Philharmonic throughout May. She is also slated for a concert at Carnegie Hall in June.
