Elias Grandy Appointed Chief Conductor of Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra

By Francisco Salazar

German-Japanese conductor Elias Grandy has been appointed Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra beginning in the 2026-27 season.

Grandy worked with the orchestra in March 2025 at the Rudolfinum, and the orchestra noted that “it was clear from the very first rehearsal that something special was happening. The atmosphere was inspiring, the communication immediate, and the artistic results spoke for themselves.”

In his new position, Grandy will guide the orchestra in developing a unique sound, exploring both the great Czech masters and new, international horizons. He will also lead concerts in Prague, international tours, recordings, and artistic collaborations that highlight the orchestra’s distinctive voice on a global stage.

Grandy was appointed Chief Conductor of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra in 2025 and also held the position of Music Director of the Theater and Orchester Heidelberg in Germany for eight years.
