Eleonora Buratto is set to star in the world premiere of Giordano’s “Marina.”

The opera, which will be part of the 81st season of I Pomeriggi Musicali at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan, Italy, will all star Freddie De Tommaso, Mihai Damian, and Nicolas Mogg. Vincenzo Milletarì will conduct the concert production.

Ahead of both performances musicologist Raffaele Mellace will introduce the opera to the public, with the participation of editor Andreas Gies.

“Marina” remained in a kind of historical limbo, because parts of its music were later reused in” Mala vita.” The turning point came only recently, with the discovery of the autograph score at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University, within the Koch Collection, by Andreas Gies, who prepared the critical edition forming the basis of this world premiere.

“Marina” will be performed on Feb. 12 and 14 and a recording will be made for Decca Classics.
