Eleanor Lyons, Christian Gerhaher, Irina Lungu, Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, Katharina Konradi, & Iurii Samoilov Lead City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s 2026-27 Season

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2026-27 season. Here is a look at the vocal performances.

The season opens with Kazuki Yamada conducting Mahler’s Symphony No.2 (“Resurrection”) with Eleanor Lyons and Jess Dandy.

Performance Date: Sept. 17, 2026


Kazuki Yamada conducts Britten’s “War Requiem” with Irina Lungu, Andrew Staples, and Christian Gerhaher.

Performance Date: Nov. 11, 2026


Jeffrey Skidmore conducts “Britten at Christmas” with Sebastian Hill and Katherine Thomas.

Performance Date: Dec. 5, 2026


Tess Jackson conducts Ailish Tynan in a “Viennese New Year.”

Performance Date: Jan. 3, 2027


Kazuki Yamada conducts a night at the opera with Aled Jones as presenter and soloists Katharina Konradi and Robert Lewis.

Performance Date: Feb. 19, 2027


Ilan Volkov joins the CBSO Youth Chorus for music by Adès, Strauss, and Mendelssohn.

Performance Date: March 4, 2027


Jeffrey Skidmore conducts Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis.” Soloists include Carolyn Sampson, Martha McLorinan, Sebastian Hill, and James Rutherford.

Performance Date: March 7, 2027


Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla conducts Weinberg’s The Passenger” with Adrienn Miksch, Iurii Samoilov, Daveda Karanas, Nikolai Schukoff, Anna Gorbachyova-Ogilvie, Lidia Vinyes Curtis, Marta Fontanals-Simmons, Shay Bloch, Olivia Doray, Helen Field, Liubov Sokolova, Géraldine Dulex, Hrólfur Sæmundsson, Marcell Bakonyi, and Albert Casals.

Performance Date: April 2, 2027


Sir Mark Elder conducts Verdi’s “Requiem” with Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, Alice Coote,  Thomas Atkins, and William Thomas.

Performance Date: May 5, 2027


Kazuki Yamada conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with Jennifer Johnston.

Performance Date: June 10, 2027
