‘El Rey Nació’ To Make U.S. Premiere This Holiday Season

José Luis González Moya’s “El Rey Nació” will make its U.S. Premiere on Dec. 8 and 9 at St. Brigid-Saint Emeric Church.

The work is being billed as the first opera composed specifically about the birth of Jesus Christ and it will be presented in association with PuntaClassic and Asociación de Nuestra Señora de Luján.

The work will be produced by PuntaClassic’s Artistic Director Luz del Alba Rubio (who is also set to play the role of Mary) and will feature tenor Mario Arevalo, baritone Gerardo de la Torre, soprano Maria Fernanda Brea-Charnin, baritone Miguel Angel, mezzo-soprano Anna Tonna, tenor César Delgado, and soprano Eugenia Forteza.

The opera originally premiered in 2010. This New York presentation of the work will be in concert form.

The Dec. 8 performance kicks off at 7:30 p.m. EST while the Dec. 9 performance will take place at 4 p.m. EST.
