By Francisco Salazar

The Pittsburgh Opera is set to open its 84th season with a historic production of “Rusalka.”

The Dvořák work, which is known as the “Opera’s Little Mermaid,” will star Ekaterina Siurina in the title role alongside Marianne Cornetti, Hao Jiang Tian, Jonathan Burton, and Leah Hawkins.

The cast is rounded out by Julia Swan Laird, Emily Richter, Jazmine Olwalia, and Brandon Bell.

“Rusalka” premiered in 1901 and this production will mark the first-ever in Pittsburgh Opera’s 84-year history. It will also mark the first Czech opera in the company’s history.

Antony Walker will conduct the production by Kristine McIntyre.

The opera is set to open on Sept. 17 and run through Sept. 25 at the Benedum Center.
