Ekaterina Semenchuk Replaces Anna Netrebko at Bayerische Staatsoper

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a replacement for Anna Netrebko in “Macbeth.”

The company announced that Ekaterina Semenchuk will sing the role of Lady Macbeth on July 14 and 18, 2022.

The news comes after Netrebko released a statement that she was withdrawing from all performances until further notice.

While the soprano has condemned the war in Ukraine, her past ties with Putin have affected her international career that has seen cancelations at the Teatro alla Scala, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Opernhaus Zurich, and Metropolitan Opera.

The Bayerische Staatsoper has also been vocal about cutting ties with the soprano and noted that future engagements have been canceled.

Semenchuk joins a cast that includes Artur Rucinski, Vitalij Kowaljow, and Evan LeRoy Johnson.
