Edmonton Opera is set to present Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” on Feb. 1 and 3, 2024.

The showcase, which will take place at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and Banff Centre for Creativity, will be conducted by Simon Rivard and directed by Edmonton Opera Artistic Director Joel Ivany.

In the title role, audiences will experience Elliot Madore. He is joined by Jonelle Sills as Donna Anna, Andrea Núñez as Donna Elvira, John Tessier as Don Ottavio, Justin Welsh as Leporello, Mireille Asselin as Zerlina, Peter Monaghan as Masetto, and Benjamin Sieverding as the Commendatore.

“Don Giovanni. Two words that encapsulate a deep passion for the opera. This piece, created in just nine months by Mozart and Da Ponte, draws inspiration from the life of Casanova, a figure who challenged societal norms. Today, as we navigate a world of restrictions and control, the characters of Don Giovanni and Casanova resonate profoundly, offering diverse interpretations for today,” said Ivany per an official press statement issued by the company.
