Edmonton Opera Throws Support Behind Oilers in New Video
By David SalazarEdmonton Opera has released a new video featuring members of its chorus performing a reimagined version of “Maybe This Time with lyrics rewritten in honor of the Edmonton Oilers.
The release of the song made famous by Liza Minnelli in “Cabaret” follows the company’s previous viral effort, a hockey-themed video inspired by “La Bamba” that drew over 75,000 views and sparked widespread engagement well beyond the opera company’s usual audience.
“Our first video reached tens of thousands of viewers and sparked great conversations in Edmonton,” said Artistic Director Joel Ivany, per an official press release. “We love this city and we love the Oilers — unapologetically — so yes, we made another one.”
The Edmonton Oilers opened their Stanley Cup playoff series against the Anaheim Ducks on April 20 with a 4-3 wins. The Oilers made the Stanley Cup finals in 2024 and 2025, losing both times to the Florida Panthers.
