The Edinburgh International Festival has announced a conductor change for its upcoming “Ariadne auf Naxos.”⁦

Lothar Koenigs will take over for Andrew Davis in next month’s performances.

Koenigs was the Music Director in Osnabrück from 1999 to 2003 and the Music Director of Welsh National Opera from 2009 to 2016. He has conducted at the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera New York, Munich, Dresden, La Scala, Hamburg, Brussels, and Lyon and is well-known for his interpretations of Mozart, Berg, Wagner, Strauss, and Janacek.

“Ariadne auf Naxos” is set to star Dorothea Röschmann, David Butt Philip, Brenda Rae, Joshua Hopkins, and Catriona Morison. Louisa Muller will stage the work.

The opera is set to be performed from August 25 to 29, 2021.
