Dutch National Opera to Present ‘Der Rosenkavalier’

By Francisco Salazar

The Dutch National Opera is set to present Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier,” with chief conductor Lorenzo Viotti conducting his first Strauss opera.

The opera has long been on the conductor’s wish list since he became chief conductor of the Dutch National Opera. In a press release, the conductor said, “This opera gives him the perfect opportunity to show different sides of his artistry.” The press release adds, “its brilliant score champions both the orchestra and the voice, offering swirling Viennese waltzes with swaggering rhythms as well as breathtaking vocal lines.”

The revival will be shown seven times between April 13 and May 2 with a cast that includes Maria Bengtsson, Christof Fischesser, Angela Brower, Martin Gantner, and Nina Minasyan. The revival production is by Jan Philipp Gloger.
