The Dutch National Opera has canceled the remainder of its 2020-21 season.

The company announced that due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, it would be canceling its upcoming production of “Anna Bolena scheduled for May and “La damnation de Faust” scheduled for June.

“Anna Bolena” was set to star Marina Rebeka and J’Nai Bridges while “Le damnation de Faust” was going to feature a cast led by John Osborn, Anna Stéphany, and Kyle Ketelsen.

As a result, the company will return to regular performances in September to start the 2021-22 season.

The news comes a week after the company announced its digital Opera Foward Festival, which is set to be presented throughout March. The festival will present four diverse programs for the whole family.

The Netherlands has reported 1,120,075 COVID-19 cases and 15,833 deaths. The country currently has all bars and restaurants closed and there is a nationwide 9 p.m. to 4.30 a.m. curfew.
