Dutch National Opera Announces New Chorus Master

By David Salazar

The Dutch National Opera has announced that Edward Ananian-Cooper will be its new chorus master.

His tenure will kick off during the 2022-23 season and he will take over for Ching-Lien Wu, who resigned from the company in April of 2021.

An Austrian-Belgian with a double Masters in choral and orchestral conducting, Ananian-Cooper has been chorus master of the Chorus of the Opera de Limoges and has led the ensemble at such companies as the Opéra Comique and Opéra National de Bordeaux, among many others around Europe. He also made regular guest appearances with the Danish Radio Choir.

“After an intense search process that lasted almost a year, I am extremely pleased to welcome Edward Ananian-Cooper into the artistic family of Dutch National Opera. Edward has won over our chorus with his refined artistry, natural authority and excellent communication skills. He is a citizen of the world, trained as a pianist, violinist, conductor and engineer! These talents and skills will prove to be essential in further developing the chorus and in achieving our mission of opening up the world of opera and chorus singing to a wider audience,” said DNO director Sophie de Lint, in an official press statement.
