Dutch National Opera Announces 2022 Opera Forward Festival

The Opera Forward Festival has announced its 2022 season.

The festival is set to be present works by established names and a new generation of makers, musical performances, video art, and talks. The sixth edition’s theme is “New Beginnings.” The festival will showcase four productions.

The festival will open with the world premiere of “I Have Missed You Forever” by Manoj Kamps and Lisenka Heijboer Castañón. This new production will feature a collective of performers, designers, writers, and composers from different disciplines and backgrounds.

Performance Dates: March 12-18, 2022

The company present the world premiere of “Orphée | L’Amour | Eurydice” inspired by Gluck’s opera “Orphée et Eurydice.” Opera director Robin Coops and VR pioneer Avinash Changa take audiences on a journey of exploring, resulting in three separate opera experiences that immerse visitors in different ways into the perspectives of Orphée, Eurydice, and L’Amour. The production stars Lucas van Lierop as Orphée, Kalin Morrow and Tijana Prendovic as Eurydice, Brechtje Kat and Tirza de Boer as L’Amour.

Performance Dates: March 5-7, 2022

The festival will present the Dutch premiere of “Denis & Katya.” Ted Huffman and composer Philip Venables will team up to bring the work to life with Tim Anderson conducting and Michael Wilmering and Inna Demenkova starring.

Performance Dates: March 11-18, 2022

“Eurydice – Die Liebenden, blind” will have its world premiere by composer Manfred Trojahn. Pierre Audi directs with Erik Nielsen conducting. Andrè Schuen stars as Orpheus with Julia Kleiter as Eurydice, Thomas Oliemans as Pluto, Katia Ledoux as Proserpina, and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
