
Duo Étrange to Headline ‘Very Feral Today’ in NYC
By David SalazarMarcus Shields’ “Very Feral Today” will take the stage at Gallery 311 in New York City starting on June 21, 2025.
The interdisciplinary performance piece conceived and produced by Shields is part concert, part documentary, and part theatrical ritual. The 70-minute program for soprano and cello explores a wide range of themes, including personal memory, grief, desire, and private history.
Headlining the showcase are Duo Étrange, which features cellist Sahara von Hattenberger and soprano Vanessa Croome. The two will perform works by David Lang, John Tavener, Alex Groves, Randall Woolf, J. S. Bach, Anders Hillborg, Jeffrey Fong, and Maya Fridman.
Duo Étrange is a recipient of the 2025 New Music USA Creator Fund for their upcoming collaboration with composer Kebra Seyoung-Charles. They are also set to release their debut album in 2026 and will make concert debuts across North America. Croome has performed with such companies as Santa Fe Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Opéra de Montréal, Jacksonville Symphony, Orchestre Métropolitain, Orchestre de l’Agora, and Salle Bourgie.
There will be a total of four performances of “Very Feral Today,” with remaining showcases set for June 22, 24, and 25, 2025.
