Drottningholm Court Theatre Announces 2026 Summer Festival

Drottningholm Court Theatre has unveiled its Summer Festival program.

The centerpiece of the season is Claudio Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazione di Poppea.”

Performance Date: August 1-15, 2026


Ensemble Dialogos, led by Katarina Livljanić, presents “Barlaam and Josaphat,” a medieval tale drawn from Greek, Latin, Russian, Croatian, French, Occitan, and Italian manuscripts tracing the legend’s journey across cultures and centuries.

Performance Date: August 6 & 8, 2026


“Death at Dawn” pairs Monteverdi’s “Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda” with Ottorino Respighi’s “Il Tramonto.”

Performance Date: August 14, 2026


The Boston Early Music Festival returns to Drottningholm Court Theatre with its vocal and chamber ensembles, featuring soprano Amanda Forsyth alongside a lineup of early music specialists from Europe and North America.

Performance Date: August 17-18, 2026


The festival concludes with Alessandro Stradella’s oratorio “San Giovanni Battista,” honoring Queen Silvia’s five decades as Queen of Sweden and marking the 400th anniversary of the birth of Queen Kristina. The work is performed by a double orchestra and presented as a gift to the Queen from Drottningholm Court Theatre, Drottningholmteaterns Vänner, and the theatre’s benefactors.
