By David Salazar

Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” will be showcased via the Vienna State Opera’s live stream service on May 21, 2019.

The famed Rossini comedy will star Juan Diego Flórez in a role that he championed in the earlier part of his career. It will be interesting to see the tenor return to this iconic interpretation after having moved into heavier repertory. He will be joined by Paolo Rumetz, Margarita Gritskova, Alessio Ardiuni, and Sorin Coliban. Evelino Pidò conducts.

The stream kicks off at 7:30 p.m. local time and is slated to run until around 10:15 p.m. That’s around 1:30 p.m. EDT and 10:30 a.m. PST for the start time.

Per the official website, tickets start at 14 euros (approximately $16 USD) and can be purchased right off the Vienna State Opera’s streaming website. There are options for monthly subscriptions to future performances on the service depending on users’ preference to experience opera from the comfort of their homes.

Next up on the slate of live streams will be “Die Frau Ohne Schatten,” and “Dantons Todd.”
